José holds a Higher Diploma in Civil Navigation and Sea Studies (Laguna University, Tenerife, 2002) which, after further study, was converted into an honours degree in Seamanship and Maritime Transportation (University of Basque Country, 2005). He also holds a B.A. in Law and a Masters in Management of Marine & Port Companies from the University of Deusto (2007). In 2008 José gained a Masters in Maritime Law from the University of Oslo, Norway.
José is a qualified First Officer. He did his training at Acciona Trasmediterranea S.A. and Fred Olsen S.A. (2002-2005). In 2008 José completed all the professional training required by the ITCW Convention for seafarers.
He has worked on several recreational craft companies carrying out various roles including registration and legal advisor.
José joined Meana Green Maura in July 2008, where he specialises in wet law, administrative sanction proceedings, cargo claims, charter party disputes and yachting.
He has intervened in several high-profile cases including “LAPAD”, “LOUIS MAJESTY”, “FUNCHAL” and “COSTA CONCORDIA”.
He is also co-author of the Spanish chapter in the 2011 “Shipping and International Guide” publication edited by David Lucas of Hill Dickinson.
